The Big Dig

12th Mar 2025

On Tuesday and Wednesday, The School of Irish Archaeology brought their replica ‘Viking House’ and excavation site to the school which gave the children the chance to explore the Viking world through a simulated archaeology dig.

The children got to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house.

They dug through the site, unearthing Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1,000 years. They learned about the lives of our Viking ancestors as history was brought to life for them.

The children really had a great time and learned lots about our past.
